This has to do with them increasing their stiffness with the the more weight that is added to them. I went ahead and contacted Rhino-Rack, and they said that the aero bar accessory bar and the HD accessory bars for the pioneer platform are essentially the same. However, Rhino-Rack did say that they always recommend the aero bar accessory bar over the HD version because it will allow you to mount a wide range of accessories and it is a bit better in quality.
